History

The Tuggeranong Vikings Water Polo Club was formed in August 1994.

Vikings Water Polo is a family club. Our goal is to develop and support members to be the best water polo players they can be.

We support our social players through providing a fun and supportive environment and opportunities to travel to social carnivals throughout the year as well as competing in the local ACT competition. We provide our elite players with support and guidance to achieve ACT, NSW & Australian selection.

The current members of the committee are appointed at the Club’s Annual General Meeting. The committee’s primary objective is to ensure the success and development of the Club to the provision of a range of high quality services to its members and also promoting water polo widely within the ACT community.

Kim is the founding President of the Club, a former president of ACTWP, and has had a lengthy involvement with Vikings as a coach and player.  He played in various representative  teams from 1978 to 1994 and represented Australia in swimming from 1981 to 1986, including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, the 1984 Olympics, the 1981 and 1983 Pan Pacific Championships, the 1983 and 1985 World Student Games. Kim worked as a professional swim coach from 1986 to 1991.

Natalie is a product of our junior development program. Natalie was a Swimming ACT representative specialising in distance & backstroke prior to switching to water polo. Her water polo career includes representing the ACT in under 16 championships, School girls championships and representing Canberra in the Pan Pacific Youth Water Polo Championships in Aukland, New Zealand. Natalie also traveled to Sydney to  play for Uni of NSW in the Sydney summer competition for many seasons.

Matt started his water polo career in the Coca Cola development squad in 1986. He has had an extensive representative career including ACT Schoolboys 1987-82, Australian Schoolboys 1991-92, ACT U21 Junior men 1989-94 (player and coach). He has coached at all levels including assistant coach for the National League. He was an AIS Associate Scholarship Holder 1991-93.
