Juniors

What we offer:

A high quality professionally coached water polo development program with a focus on;

Who is eligible?

  • Players of all abilities between the age of 11-17 years
  • Players who have an interest in water polo, are enthusiastic, passionate and willing to learn about the game and the exciting opportunities the Vikings club offers.

The program:

2 hours of training per week. A transition pathway to advanced training.

In each session players will learn the basic skills:

  • Swimming and treading water- swimming skills with an emphasis on ‘water polo’ swimming will be developed in addition to balance and effective treading water
  • Ball skills and passing/shooting technique- technique, balance and body position for treading water whilst passing, shooting and controlling the ball.
  • Game play: drills and game practice will focus on understanding the game and the rules of play

Code of Conduct

All players, coaches & officials are required to adhere to the Vikings Water Polo Code of Conduct. A copy of the Code of Conduct can be found here

Summer Competition

The summer competition is the main water polo competition and runs over term 4 & term 1 with a break in late December/January. The summer competition in club based so all players must be registered with a club. The competition is played on a Friday night with the girls based at Gungahlin & the boys at the AIS. The competition ends in late March with a finals day for both girls & boys as well as senior teams.

Winter Competition

The winter competition runs in terms 2 & 3. In 2018 the competition will be run as a round robin over 3 weekends in June, July & August. Click here for more details.

Sponsorship

Vikings Water Polo is supported financially through operational & equipment grants by the Vikings Group and we encourage our members to become members of the Vikings Group of Clubs as this assists us with our grant applications.

Representative Subsidies

In addition to club sponsorship the Vikings Group also provide subsidies to our members who represent the ACT during the year and are members of the Vikings Group.

Representative Pathways

Each year the ACT enters girls & boys teams in the under 14 & under 16  NSW Club Championships and National Club Championships. These tournaments are held at various locations throughout NSW/Australia.

Vikings Club also enter teams in the Canberra Cup which is held around the middle weekend in September. Canberra Cup draws teams from throughout NSW and the junior part of that tournament is an under 17 age group.

We also enter teams in various smaller club run tournaments throughout the year.

Players also have the opportunity to trial for the ACT Schools Water Polo team each year. The ACT Schools competition is an under 17 age group.

We will advise trials dates for these teams through our news feeds.
